Early 1980s motor asking price question.

I'm on the lookout for an early 1980s Evinrude or Johnson 15 HP short shaft motor and I would like your opinion on what a fair price would be for one in good working condition. I've seen a wide range of asking prices and I don't want to pay more than necessary.

Welcome to the site MCJ. One thing that can make a big difference on price is if the motor you are looking for has elect start but in general for an other motor like that, I would say $1,000 to $1,500. It could be $500 higher if it is in really good shape, with low hours.

For a 30 year old motor that is in the 15hp class, I wouldn't pay more than $1000 and would be looking at something about $600-$700 in working condition.
