There's nothing wrong with shopping on a budget. Everybody does, even if they buy the $400 dollar Shimano instead of the $700 one. I think if you are careful and read reviews you can find good stuff at modest prices. I just set up a couple of good rod/reel/line combos for catfish for about $65 each by shopping sales, etc. Sure, to a degree you get what you pay for but a lot of times you pay too much for a big name. And I have had as much fun catching fish on cheap combos from a big-box store as I could have had with more expensive equipment. Sorry, got off on a little rant there.
