I bought a Johnson Century spincast reel for my little brother about 1972-73. He used it bass fishing in Florida for about 6 years. I can't imagine how many spools of the old Royal Bonnyl line we used on that reel. I lost my brother in 1981 and I still have that old reel. There is not even a smear on the spool.

I found some Shimano spinning reels that have a trigger, as it were, that opens the bail, picks up the line, and holds it until the cast. I think they can easily handle them.

The first spinning reel I used was an old Mitchel 300. I had line in my hair, my boots, my pockets, and in my lunch box.
