		I'm with you, Dryrod. Stealth is the watchword. More softly, minimize your silhouette (lawd, how many casts have I made from my knees!), etc.
 
I was also taught to stay out of the water as much as possible, for the same reason.
 
But I'm thinking it's because you and I grew up fishing the hard-hit streams of the Northeast, where fish learned to be spooky. Even the shadow of a passing bird can often put them down.
