Hi Luke. Welcome.
Within an hour of Provo you have three awesome lakes and two rivers that all provide very different fishing experiences.
The Lakes:
Deer Creek is a clear, deep mountain reservoir with Trout, Bass, Perch and Walleye. I've caught a lot of Perch, some Large mouth Bass, and Trout from the shore in good numbers there.
Yuba is a deep, muddy lake that is completely overrun with massive Carp. It also contains some big Northern Pike -- but they are a bit trickier to find. If you want to try your luck at some real monsters, Yuba can be really fun.
Utah Lake is next door and when the bite is on for White Bass, Catfish, and Carp, it's a fish a cast. There are also harder-to-find Walleye and Large Mouth Bass. This is a local fishery I'm just starting to learn myself -- despite having grown up as part of the Lake's devoted summer Power Squadron (waterskier)
The Rivers:
The Provo has produced some very large Trout in its day. Spinning or Fly fishing is a blast on those waters.
The Jordan is a river I've not fished much and only targeted the White bass... but some of the more knowledgeable anglers around here will tell you great Catfish and Walleye stories.
Welcome to fishing heaven!
