What about leader size?

A lot depends on what kind of fish your after and whether your stream fishing or lake fishing. If your fishing for trout in a stream and using nymphs, you only need a 7 1/2' leader in 3-4X. If your fishing with dry flies then the leader suggested will work. If you are just learning to fly fish, which it sounds like you are, the heavier leader will save you some flies.[
