I had a similar incident happen to me at Mantua last year. I lost a pole through the ice with a nice healthy rainbow attached to it. One hit and the rod was gone before I could get out of my chair. 15-20 minutes later less than 30 feet from me my buddy gets a hit on his line and low and behold he snagged my pole with the bow still attached. So when we were fishing in the same general area this year and I had another fish steal my rod and holder we set up all around hoping to be able to reclaim the rod but it was to no avail. So either I have an ugly stick combo laying on the bottom of manuta, or somebody received a great surprise a little later on.
