It's a dumb question I know, but I've been fishing with countdown rapalas and they come with a small ring on the front of the lure. I just got some floaters and they don't have this. I was just wondering if I tie the line directly to the lure would have a negitive effect on the lures action? I've heard of the rapala knot, but wouldn't it be just as good to buy some of those little O-rings and put them on to give the lure the same action?

What kind of water are you fishing, lake, river clear muddy etc.? I tie all my rapalas with a polymer knot but it's not recommend supposedly. Takes away the action. I've never had any problems.
I believe, as small as it is, an O-ring on the front of a floater will throw off the balance of the lure.

I got the floaters for fishing rivers mainly, but I could fish lakes as well. You might have a point about it thowing off the action, weight? Any other thoughts?

Any knot other than a loop or rapala knot will change the action of any lure that does not have a ring. As far as Origional Rapala's and other slender stick baits I often tie an improved cinch and place ot on the ridged nose loop to impart a particular action. Tied to the top the lure dives a foot deep and then slowly wobbles to the top, tide to the bottom of the loop the lure twists and turns and struggles in 4" of water as I retrieve it steady.
Learn that loop knot, it's easy and very handy.

Improved Clinch knot tied directly to the rapala is what I always fish and I have never had any problems whatsoever. Caught hundreds of fish this way.

I use a palomar knot tied to a snap or snap swivle then hook those to the lure, anykind of crank bait, spinner, or spoon. for jigs and such i am fond of the palomar knot its simple and one of the knots rapala reccomends on the knot slip in each rapala package the last few i have picked up have had a little green paper in them with a few knots on them with directions and pictures of how to tie them.

I use a small split ring and tie a palomar knot. I don't tie directly to the lures nose because, when the line is being pulled tight against the lure (reeling fast) swims back and forth rubbing the line on the nose wire, after so many rubs back and forth and you loose that rapala and they coast too much for that. also I never use swivels either, I lost a big fish and don't trust them anymore. later chuck
