spend the money on the reel if you have to choose. I also suggest using a flourocarbon line. I use only a 4lb line. I caught many 20" Large Mouth Bass last season on it and only had 1 break off.

I like to use a Wally Marshall spinning combo 6'6" medium weight line
Usually 6#test. I tight line,bobber fish, or cast road runners.
Have caught on all three.[bobhappy]
